The following text is included in the environmental plank of the California Democratic Party's 2002 campaign platform.

"Because of Mendocino and Sonoma Counties’ great dependence on its fisheries, its tourism and due to the water shortages that are a hallmark of life in the counties and the potential for significant and irreversible environmental damage, oppose any proposal to export water from the Gualala and Albion rivers."
